ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Thick ice is delaying the resumption of shipping on the Upper Mississippi River.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers had planned to reopen Lock and Dam 5A near Fountain City, Wisconsin, on Monday. But the Corps says the river ice has forced a delay. It now plans to reopen the lock and dam no later than March 23.
The Fountain City lock and dam was closed Dec. 1 for renovation and maintenance. The Corps says that work will be completed within the new timeframe.
